Brand Photography & AI Enhancements

For my brand photography project, I used my Canon M50 mirrorless camera to capture still images of Burt’s Bees Chapstick on a plain background. Using AI features on Adobe Creative Cloud’s Photoshop, I was able to extend the background and add creative design elements to these photos, or change the background completely. Taking the photos was fairly painless, once I figured out the ideal distance and lighting to use. Once I started playing around with the photos in Photoshop, the process got a bit more complicated. Although I was familiar with the platform, I had only used generative fill once before.

I started with expanding the white backdrop to the edges of the frame and went from there. I wasn’t quite sure what to add so I started simple while prompting and got more detailed and specific as I learned more about what the program responded to best. Multiple times I would submit a prompt and the results would be the same photo with slightly different lighting and shadows, which did get a bit frustrating, but the “generate similar” feature also helped with guiding the results in the right direction. Overall, I’m fairly satisfied with the results and believe that I successfully gain customer interest in the product, encouraging them to try a new flavor of chapstick.
